Manhattan, IL – When a relative indicated he was going to visit
the Pope, Gea Alberico of Manhattan rallied her third-grade class
at St. Joseph’s to write the Pope a letter from the class and ask
him to bless a rosary for each of the 21 students. They also
composed a list of questions they’d love to ask the Pope if they
were visiting with him.

Gea’s relative, Tony Brandolino, traveled with a group this past
month to Italy with Bishop Sartain. Brandolino did bring the
children’s letters and rosaries for his visit with Pope Benedict XVI
and returned them all to the children with the Pope’s special
blessing. The children also received a medal and a prayer card
from the Pope.

“The students were excited with anticipation and hopeful that the
rosaries would come back. It certainly made them feel very special
that someone would help them get a rosary blessed by the Pope
and many said it made them feel closer to the Pope and to God.
In some families, it is the only item they have blessed by the Pope,
so these rosaries are very special to the entire family”, says Mrs.
Karen Talamonti, St. Joseph third-grade teacher.
